DONATE! Double your money!!!

18 Jan
Hey Team!
Please repost on facebook, tell your friends, and please pass this information along to your parents!!

HERE IS MY OFFICIAL DONATION PAGE FOR THE BOSTON MARATHON: CLICK HERE!!!

How does this work?  It’s simple!  We raise $5,000 and in return Boston Rising (a organization based in Grove Hall)  will double our money, giving us $10,000

The $10,000 raised will be used to purchase more computers/laptops (plus the tables and chairs to use them) for our school. In addition some of the funds will help support our after school clubs and teams with funds they need for field trips, supplies, conferences and competitions. As we push to become an innovative 21st century school we need the funds to support our talented staff and students in the endeavors that will get us there.

If you have not already made your yearly contribution you can do so online now by credit card (go to latinacademy.org), bringing in a check made out to “Friends of Boston Latin Academy”, or making a cash donation.
We will have tables set up on the first and second floor on Thursday 1/19 where you can make you donations or you can send your donation in with your child to drop off in the main office.

Run, Ms. G, Run!!!!

9 Jan

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to share some fantastic information: It is official:

I will be running the Boston Marathon in April!

My First Marathon: 2006

My First Marathon: 2006

I am so honored to have this opportunity, especially to run for such a great cause: YOU! In order for me to run without a qualifying time (which is extremely hard to do), I have to raise $10,000 for BLA! So, Please stay tuned for more fundraising information. If you would like to be part of my fundraising team, please post below or speak to Ms. Jarudi in room 316!

Things to look forward to and ways you can help:

  • A team name and slogan: I am open to suggestions for my team running name, something that includes dragons, BLA, Gentile, etc.
  • T-Shirts: the slogan will be printed on an obnoxiously bright T-shirt so you can all be noticed when you stand along the course, cheering!
  • HR donation fundraisers: like we did last year to raise money for Deo
  • Motivation: During the winter months, I will need some help. I’m going to track my miles and you need to YELL at me if I don’t increase my mileage or don’t run. A snowy February is NOT an excuse!

Get excited because this is going to be AWESOME!!!

More information to follow…

Really?

14 Dec

I had to take a picture of this. I hope those of you who watched MissRepresentation can understand why this would be upsetting.

Imagine if this was professional attire? Is this the message we (as a society) are sending to young people??? Team 9A should all wear this tomorrow, even Mr. Duarte.

I appreciate your commentary!

Turn-it-in: 2011 -12 Account Information

7 Dec

We are going to be using turnitin to submit essays, peer edit and check for plagiarism (among other cool things!).

You must upload a paragraph as a trial run (anything you want) to turn-it-in. This is not going to be graded on content, but on if you successfully upload it (so, a Pass/Fail homework assignment).  You need to learn HOW to use turnitin, so this is a trial paragraph.

This is your opportunity to use this and set up your account. I expect you to do this and require you to do this by the due date. I will be moving forward with using this program, so please ask for help from me or your librarians.

Things to include:

  • Write it in the program you would use to write an essay
  • 25 -50 word paragraph
  • Your user name/password should be included in the paragraph; just in case you forget it, I have it handy!
  • You can: humor me, tell me a joke, something about you, how annoying school it…I don’t care.

Please refer to the chart including your section information. You will need the password and log in information to create an account. Please use your full name (first and last) to create the account AND use the email account that you check everyday. I will contact you via email. MAKE SURE YOU SIGN UP FOR THE CORRECT SECTION!!!!!!

It is simple, like uploading pictures onto facebook. You can either upload the document, or cut and paste, whichever you would like.

If you have any questions, post them here in the comments section, be sure to leave your name. If your peers want to answer, they may do so. Or, you can check with Ms. Moniz or Ms. Estrada in the library.

DUE: FRIDAY 12/16 by 2:30 pm

Good luck!
