Teach the Class 2012!

2 Feb
You will be presenting chapters from the novel Jane Eyre to the class. In this presentation, you will need to address:
  • You must provide a handout for the class so your classmates can keep it in their Table of contents section (the handout is not just a repeat of your presentation—leave room for your classmates to take notes – be interactive!).
  • VISUAL: You need a powerpoint or poster. Your powerpoint/poster should make your presentation fluid and be relevant to what you are presenting. Also, your powerpoint format MUST be compatible with my computer. That means: PLAN IN ADVANCE! No powerpoint = no credit and you must do the presentation without it! It should enhance and guide the presentation! Also, make use of writing on the board!
  • A 5-8 minute do-now that relates to the ideas/themes you will be discussing any advances in the plot/important events in the plot.
  • Identify TWO literary techniques (imagery, foreshadowing, symbolism), including
  • examples/quotations
  • You need THREE vocabulary words, used in context and a definition.
  • You need to include THREE passagesfrom the text.Your presentation should be between 30 – 35 minutes.
    • One relating the chapter to a focus term (FNIC)
    • One passage relating to gothic elements
    • ONE showing/indicating character analysis/development (what do we learn about the character and/or how does s/he change?)

To ensure that your presentation is delivered in a professional manner, practice your presentation before you present it to the class. You will be allowed up to TWO small note cards to help you with quotes and references to the book; if you read directly from your notes – forgetting to provide eye-contact and forgetting to check for understanding with your students – you will lose points. You will also be graded on your participation/feedback while other groups present. This presentation is worth two quiz grades and a TEST grade, so take it seriously.

EXTRA CREDIT: Also, You will receive extra points if the ENTIRE group dresses professionally (no jeans, sneakers, uggs, etc). Look like you are in charge!!

You will be judged on the following rubric:

Requirements Points YOUR score
Handout: handout is clear, USEFUL, provides space for notes, relevant to thePresentation 5
