Focus QuestionsWhy do photos evoke emotion? Why can they be so powerful? How can they break language or cultural barrier? How does a picture connect to the viewer, regardless of the background or culture? Think about these when you are taking your pictures.

 DUE: WEDNESDAY 12/15

Assignment:

  • You have to find and TAKE TWO pictures that represent Hope AND Despair. You will have to describe what you are taking a picture and how/why it represents that emotion to you.
  • You may work with a partner IN ANY SECTION!!!! But do so at your own risk, NO EXCUSES.
    • BOTH names AND sections need to be on the assignment.
    • Must be turned in with the section I have FIRST in the day. For example, if one partner has class second period and the other has class sixth period, I need the assignment second period. Otherwise it is late. No late stuff…’member??
  • If you work with a partner, you must see me for a work-division sheet. I need to know who you’re working with, who did what, etc.
    • ONE Work division sheet is due: WEDNESDAY. If I don’t get this sheet, you can not work with a partner. If you submit a partner project and I don’t have this sheet, NEITHER of you will earn credit for this assignment.

Take it:

  • Walk around BLA, your home, community, the city, your favorite spot, wherever! You need to take two pictures and represent the following emotions listed above. Your pictures can be in black and white, color, people, inanimate objects, scenery, etc. You have freedom to be creative and expressive, so take advantage of it!

 (10 pts) Write it:

  • Once you have your pictures, use the back on thesheet to complete your write up, or you can type it. Either way, you must keep your response to 300 – 400 words for EACH picture.
  • Write about: What emotion do you feel, what is going on in the pictures, what does the picture mean, what does this picture make you think about, why do you think this picture shows hope/despair, why is this picture important and what inferences could you make about the subject of the picture, society, etc?

 (5 pts) Develop it:

  • If you can get a hard copy of the picture, do so! I know that you can go to Walgreens or CVS and print pictures (the price is pretty reasonable), but don’t wait until last minute to print them. This way pleases Ms. Gentile the most J

OR

  • YOU MUST HAVE PERMISSION FROM MS. GENTILE BY MONDAY 12/13. Put the pictures on a USB/Disc to display on the computer. However, it is your RESPONSIBILITY to make sure the file is compatible and will work. If it doesn’t work on the day you present, then you will earn a ZERO.

(10pts) Present it:

  • You will have to showcase your pictures.
  • The class will be set up like an art gallery and for two days, we will have a gallery walk where we will be analyzing the class pictures.
