Grade 9: Term 1 Evaluation 2011

27 Oct

Directions: Please answer each question below recalling and responding to the past six weeks of class. There are no “right” or “wrong” answers; they are based on your experience in class and will allow both of us to gather information: you will assess your own progress and effort as a student and make necessary changes so that you can maximize your time in class and I can evaluate my own teaching style and make changes to better support and enhance class time.

Answer each question with thought and honesty. This is a reflection and should include a sincere insight for your first term. Tell more than “what” and explain “why” and its significance – analyze and word slap yourself!!!!

BE NEAT and TYPE if possible!! This assignment is due: WEDNESDAY 11/2!!!!

  1. What was your initial expectation for this class? Was it met? Explain. Has it changed? Why or why not?
  2. Overall, which grade do you think you should earn in this class for term 1 and why(think about homework, test, participation? Don’t sell yourself short, but be honest!
  3. What do you think you did well in the first term that you hope to continue with for the duration of the year? Why?

  5. What do you need to change in order to be successful in class for the next four terms? Why? What are you going to do and how are you going to do it? Don’t just tell me you have to get better at something. Explain what and tell me what steps you need to take to get there. Make a plan!!!
  6. Evaluate your organizational skills: how organized were you? How well did you keep up with the table of contents and your binder? instead of saying your skills were bad and need improvement, what specifically was bad and how are you going to ensure success next term?
  7. What was your favorite or most positive lesson, discussion, comment, etc from this term? Why? How could it be even better?
  8. What did you least enjoy and why? What could your teacher do in the future to make it more enjoyable?
  9. Regardless if you “liked” it or not, what was most challenging in this class?
  10.  What material or information did you need or want to be covered for your success in class?  With what are you still strugglingl Please be specific so that your needs are better met in the future?

Term 1 Wrap up

24 Oct

BindersYour Binders WILL be collected and graded for term 1.  so be prepared. They are counted as a test grade. If you do not have your binder when I ask for it (because you should be bringing it with you AT ALL TIMES), then you will earn a ZERO.

Binders will be collected on FRIDAY 10/28.

You are welcome to come AFTER SCHOOL to organize your binder. I’m here!!! Remember, you need to do this ON YOUR OWN TIME!!!

What I look for: organization, required sections, clear, numbered, labeled, completed table of contents, name on everything. Your “do now” section must be complete, dated, etc.

Make-up work: I allow you enough time to make up the work for as many days as you were absent, not when you feel like turning it in. I will not allow you to turn in assignments. I have already graded it and will not take MY personal time to grade something that I have already taken the time to grade. It was due when it was due. You know the story by now. The work is accessible ONLINE and in the classroom. This is YOUR responsibility to complete it and turn it in with your name on it!!!

I don’t “Give” grades: You EARN the grades you get: put in effort, time, hard work, follow directions, ask for help. If you are worried about passing for the year, I do not give you grades, I do not make up grades, and I do not give you credit for something you did not do. You had all term to complete over 30 assignments, or 30 chances to earn an A+!

These are non-negotiable: seniors who will not walk at graduation to underclassmen who have to drag a class: fair is fair is fair. This also should not surprise you; these have been my policies since September. I do not make exceptions.
