BLA: A Blue Ribbon School

17 Nov

I will crush you!

Dear students,

I wanted to take the time to thank you for all of your hard work. After attending the conference in Washington, DC, I am truly inspired. It is an honor to be able to not only teach you, but to learn from you as well. I enjoy the family we have created in 328 and I hope that you are really learning how to express yourself in your writing and your speech. I hope that you are able to get a deeper understanding of the world around you and a passion to explore it.

Sometimes, a good job and even a great job, goes overlooked. Please don’t think I don’t notice, even though I may not say it. I appreciate the work you do and the respect you give to me and demonstrate to your peers.

I missed all of you (seriously, I did) and am happy to be back! Thank you so much for all of your achievements and it was because of those achievements that I was given the opportunity to go to DC.

Keep up the great work!

<3,

Claification: GDP and The United States

5 Nov

Sorry, I am not a statistician…I was off with my figures. Although the United States donates the most money and the lowest percent, it is NOT .01% but a shockingly higer number of .1%

The truth is few countries give more than 1 percent of their annual Gross Domestic Product to development aid. And while many Americans are under the completely erroneous impression that the U.S. devotes as much as 20 percent of its annual budget to foreign aid, the reality is that succeeding presidential administrations have historically committed about 1 percent of their budgets to aid. In 2003, U.S. foreign aid came to just .14 percent of the country’s GDP.

U.S. aid(ODA)  in terms of percentage of U.S. GDP is already the lowest of any industrialized nation in the world, though paradoxically in the last three years, its dollar amount has been the highest. And while U.S. aid has increased dramatically in recent years, much of the new disbursements have been related to the war on terror and reconstruction efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Israel and Egypt continue to make their annual claims to the lion’s share of U.S. overseas aid.
